Ludwig van Beethoven, master of Theme and Variations
Theme & Variations is a classical form, as is a Dance Suite, Sonata form and Rondo form of which I think Fuer elise is an example, because it keeps coming up with the new, then back to the old. Beethoven was the master of form, and as you now know, always lets us know when there is an ending, something at which I am weak.
Jacob Rees-Mogg, UK Politician, tells us that we need to ward off the coronavirus by washing our hands to "God save the Queen", so let's do it.
Jacob Rees-Mogg has been royally ridiculed on Twitter after telling the public to keep “coughs and sneezes” in their “handkerchiefs” and sing the UK national anthem while washing their hands to counter the spread of coronavirus.
The leader of the House of Commons was asked by reporters in London on Monday whether the UK government had “got a grip” on Covid-19, more commonly known as the coronavirus. True to fashion, the posh Etonian gave a somewhat eccentric reply that could easily have been issued by an official spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth II.
"Coughs and sneezes spread diseases, keep it in your handkerchief – that’s the message. Coughs and sneezes spread...wash your hands to the national anthem."
A harpsichord very similar to the one I built age 23. I left it at my sister's place in the blue mountains. The top keyboard was not complete. I could build another instrument one day. I learned a lot.
I have played this. It is a movement which Beethoven decided to leave out of a Sonata. It portrays a professor whom Beethoven once saw looking for a penny. This is a Rondo, because it always explores new material and always returns to the theme. Bravo Ludwig!
On one visit, when Schubert called with Anselm Hüttenbrenner, Beethoven remarked, "You, Anselm have my mind, but Franz has my soul. Anselm and Beethoven's sister were the only people present at Beethoven's death. Mum absolutely adored Beethoven. "He is my God".
